Arvia (Yard no S716), which means ‘from the seashore’, was laid down on 15 February 2022. She is the second Excellence class ship and follows near sister Iona, being completed at the Meyer Werft shipyard, Papenburg, Germany. Billed as the first-ever rum distillery at sea, the drink tastes delicious, made with a blend of Caribbean cask-aged rums from Trinidad, Jamaica, Barbados and the Dominican Republic.

A first for P&O Cruises, Arvia will feature Mission Control, the first escape room for a new-build British ship, with the experience combining an escape game with multimedia simulation and a live-action story. The interactive experience will involve passengers solving a series of marine-themed puzzles on the fictional submarine Arvia II. This is a group gaming experience based on motion simulation technology and interactive consoles. The 6th Street Diner is one of the most popular alternate dining venues on Arvia. At the other end of the ship, the Club House is a show lounge used for everything from bingo and guest speakers through to live music from the house band in the evenings. There’s also a handy nightlight by the bathroom door that is controllable from the bedside switches. The shower is spacious for a cruise ship and the cubicle door swings both ways, a useful feature. The ship's keel-laying ceremony (aka coin ceremony) was held on February 16, 2022. During the ceremony (attended by Paul Ludlow), under the first hull block were placed specially minted Barbados coins. The keel block had weight 570 tonnes, length 11,3 m (37 ft), width 42 m (138 ft) height 11,8 m (39 ft), and was lifted by an 800-ton gantry crane. In October, Arvia’s first cruise was rescheduled from December 9th to December 23rd (due to delayed delivery). But the section we found the hardest to cross was a narrow beam topped by mini seesaws. Trying to balance as you navigate the ups and downs of the seesaws isn’t easy.
